Night of the God-Child

$3.10 per copy*

This work is the third in the ‘Night of…’ Christmas Trilogy commissioned by the Peterborough Singers of Canada in 2014. It takes as its premise the story of Mary’s encounter with the angel who announced that she had been chosen to mother the God-Child. Imagine how stunning it would be to receive an angelic visitor extolling one’s name! Imagine how humbling to know that one’s life was going to be used profoundly in bringing salvation to the people! The Magnificat is used to capture the Scriptural voice of Mary’s response. And further commentary on the awesome encounter is offered by the men of the choir in quasi-Gregorian style. Powerful praise ends the work as a sign that ‘the generations’ still marvel at God’s hand in the affairs of mankind.

Night of the God-Child can be performed with just piano and voices, but the optional instrumental backing and percussion grandeur and spaciousness to the impact. Full score available with the backing package (Bass guitar, 2 Trumpets, Horn in F, 2 Trombones, Timpani, Percussion, Glockenspiel).
