Mariposa Sketches

Mariposa Sketches is loosely based on ‘Sunshine sketches of a little town’ by one of Canada’s favourite authors, Stephen Leacock. Leacock had a summer home in Orillia, Ontario (a.k.a. Mariposa) and his descriptions of town life around the turn of the century are full of affectionate whimsy and humour. The music captures the flavour of five vignettes from his quaint, imaginary world: I-Dockside; II-Summer Haze; III-At the bandshell; IV-Lovers stroll down Main Street; V-At the fair. Mariposa Sketches was commissioned by the Orillia Silver Band, Neil Barlow, Music Director, for Canada’s 150 birthday celebration in 2017
